State and local government employees

In addition to the activities referred to above, the following ‘work experience’ option is available for pool safety inspectors employed by state or local government, or the QBCC:
  • Work experience derived from working as a pool safety officer employed by the Queensland Government, the QBCC or a local government in Queensland for no less than a total of 60 days in the 12 months immediately preceding the time when the person applies for renewal or restoration of their licence, provided that additional training as defined below is also undertaken in that period.
  • A person is taken to have worked for a day as a pool safety officer if, regardless of their actual position description, the work duties they performed during that day related predominantly to the safety of barriers for ‘regulated pools’ as defined under the Building Act 1975 (Act).
  • The additional training referred to above comprises at least one hour of training relevant to the pool safety legislation and standards in Queensland. The training may be devised and conducted ‘in-house’ or may be a Continuing Professional Development activity approved under section 16DE of the Building Regulation 2006.

A letter or email from the manager or supervisor of the pool safety inspector should be submitted to the QBCC with the application for licence renewal or restoration, confirming that the pool safety inspector has completed work experience (including the additional training) meeting the above requirements.
