$12,000 in fines for hot water system installations

24 July 2015

Two Townsville men have been fined $6000 each for illegally coordinating the installation of 182 hot water systems between June 2010 and February 2012.

Ashley Nuttall and Gregory Bennett, the co-directors of Townsville company NQ Go Green Technology Pty Ltd trading as Solarhart Townsville, repeatedly breached the Queensland Building and Construction Commission Act 1991.

The breaches occurred despite being reprimanded by the building regulator as far back as May 2010.

The case was recently heard by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal in Townsville.

Commissioner for the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) Steve Griffin said the QBCC prosecuted the men to ensure the professional standards of the building industry were upheld.

“It is a shame that the few who persist in carrying out work outside of their licence scope are the individuals who can cause consumers to lose confidence in the building industry,” Mr Griffin said.

“The health and safety of consumers is paramount, and the QBCC will take all steps within its power to ensure those operating in the building industry only carry out the work they are licensed to do.”
