Esther Blest, a senior member of the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), has been appointed Assistant Commissioner Service Trades Division of the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC).
Minister for Housing and Public Works, Mick de Brenni, said that plumbing, drainage and other service trades play an important role in protecting the health and safety of all Queenslanders.
“The Assistant Commissioner will support the Service Trades Council to ensure the State’s plumbing, drainage, air-conditioning, fire protection and mechanical services industries achieve world-leading health and safety outcomes,” Mr de Brenni said.
QBCC Commissioner, Brett Bassett, said that Ms Blest would bring extensive licensing and regulatory experience to the role, including senior roles with organisations ranging from Building Codes Queensland to the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation.
Currently the Director, Complaint and Program Coordination in the OFT within the Department of Justice and Attorney-General, Ms Blest will join Mr Bassett’s executive team on 15 August, 2016.
“Ms Blest’s success while representing Building Codes Queensland in legal matters is one of many skills which will be invaluable in her role at the QBCC,” Mr Bassett said.
“Her experience and abilities in policy development, investigations, compliance, licensing and dispute resolution in a variety of tough business environments make Ms Blest ideally suited to the challenges that arise in the building and construction industry,” Mr Bassett said.
