Bodies corporate and building owners across Queensland have been given additional time to complete Parts 2 and 3a of the Safer Buildings combustible cladding checklist.
To ensure building owners and bodies corporate have adequate time to call meetings, seek competitive quotes and make the necessary decisions for the completion of Parts 2 and 3a, the new deadlines will be as follows:
- Part 2: extended from 29 May 2019 to 31 July 2019
- Part 3a: extended from 27 August 2019 to 31 October 2019
Minister for Housing and Public Works, the Honourable Mick de Brenni MP announced the changes to the legislated compliance period in response to owners struggling to meet the deadline.
Bodies corporate reported it was taking longer than expected to get approval through the appropriate committees to expend the money to complete the checklist and to find suitable quotes.
The extension means owners will have additional time to do their research and hire a building industry professional they are comfortable working with.
Around 17,000 QBCC licensees are appropriately qualified to complete the Form 34 required for Part 2, in addition to architects and engineers, however the QBCC has advised owners to shop around to get the best quotes for the service.
The QBCC last week issued a public warning to inform building owners and bodies corporate of an unusually high variation in quoted prices for building industry professionals to complete Part 2 of the Safer Buildings combustible cladding checklist.
Further information on how to find a building industry professional can be found on the QBCC blog.
