Prepare building sites ahead of summer break

21 December 2021

Do not risk an unsecure building site this summer.

This is the warning from the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) ahead of the summer closure of building sites across the state.

QBCC Commissioner Richard Cassidy said there were a few simple things trades people could do to help prepare and protect their building sites during severe weather events.

“The South East Queensland storms have already packed a punch and the last thing you want is to come back from your summer break and have to clean up your building site,” he said.

“We are encouraging all QBCC licensed contractors to prepare their building sites for potential weather conditions which can help avoid the risk of injury, damage and costs associated with storms and cyclones.

“Remove all loose material and building rubbish from sites, secure scaffolding, planks and equipment, raise all materials above known flood levels and check insurance policies and coverage is up-to-date and sites and values are accurate.

“Secure all metal roof cladding, gutters and flashing, secure any temporary structures such as site offices and shipping containers and add extra bracing to frame areas that may have to resist high winds.”

Further details can be found on the QBCC website.
