New fire safety professional
Fire safety professional licences transitioned to the new fire safety professional class under the new framework which commenced on 1 May 2021.
Key changes for transitioned licensees
- The licence scope of work is now limited to the inspection of, or reporting on, buildings, including existing, temporary or special structures, against fire performance legislation, including, for example, the Building Act 1975, and the Building Code of Australia
- The scope of work for the ‘fire safety professional’ licence no longer includes the formulation and provision of alternative solutions relating to fire safety, or the certifying, inspection or testing of fire protection systems or equipment.
- From 1 May 2021, additional licence classes must be held to certify, inspect or test fire protection equipment. It should be noted that the new ‘certify’ classes do not include ‘inspect and test’ work.
- From 1 May 2021, the formulation and provision of alternative solutions relating to fire safety will no longer be fire protection work.
