Frequently asked questions

  1. We licence and regulate Queensland’s building industry, protect consumers, and uphold standards. Our work includes:

    • licensing contractors, plumbers, drainers, certifiers and Pool Safety Inspectors
    • regulating building standards and products
    • providing dispute resolution for defective building work
    • administering the Queensland Home Warranty Scheme
  2. You'll receive a work vehicle, laptop, phone, iPad, uniform, inspection equipment and home office monitors. 

  3. After a three-month onboarding period, Inspectors can work from home full time. 

  4. You’ll complete a Certificate IV in Government Investigations (fully funded by QBCC) within the first few months. Ongoing training and mentoring is provided.

  5. Inspectors work a 7.25-hour day within the span of 7am–6.30pm, Monday to Friday. This allows flexibility in structuring your day.

  6. Yes—QBCC staff must close any active construction-related business before starting.

  7. Cases are assigned based on our policy and are kept geographically close, but not in your own suburb. Some travel is required.
