Q: What is the QBCC digital licence?
A: A QBCC digital licence is the same as a physical QBCC licence, just on a mobile device. It carries the same legal status as the physical licence card, which licensees will still receive.

Q: Who can access the QBCC digital licence?
A: All eligible QBCC licence holders. For more information, visit the QBCC Digital Licence website.

Q: Why introduce a digital licence when the physical one works well?
A: Digital licences offer enhanced security, automatic updates and are convenient – your QBCC licence(s) stored safely on your phone, always with you. No more digging through the glovebox.
Note: If you work in environments where mobile devices are restricted (e.g. surgical, sterile, or high-security areas), you’ll still need to carry and present your physical licence card.

Q: How do I get my QBCC digital licence?
A: Download the Queensland Digital Licence app and complete the onboarding steps. Once onboarded, open the wallet tab, click the '+' button, and follow the prompts to add your QBCC licence.

Q: How can I update my details on the QBCC digital licence?
A:  The QBCC requires all licence holders to keep their personal details up to date. To do this:

  • Visit the QBCC Update details on your licence webpage to update your licence information with the QBCC.
  • Your photo, first name, and surname on your QBCC digital licence are sourced from your Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) profile (e.g. driver’s licence, marine licence, or Proof of ID card). These details must be updated with TMR before they will appear correctly on your QBCC digital licence.

Q: Can I get a QBCC digital licence if I live interstate?
A: Yes. If you are a QBCC licensee and hold an eligible TMR product (e.g. Queensland driver licence, marine licence, or proof of age card), you can download the Queensland Digital Licence app and add your QBCC digital licence regardless of your location.

Q: Do I need to provide a photo when applying for a new QBCC licence?
A: Yes. A current photo may be required during the application process, even if you already have a digital licence.

Q: Will I be able to access my QBCC digital licence without network coverage?
A: Yes. The Queensland Digital Licence app securely stores your encrypted information on your device. When internet access is available, it automatically checks for updates to ensure your details are current. If you're offline, the app will use the most recent version stored locally, allowing you to continue verifying your identity without interruption. For more details, visit Queensland Government Digital Licence website

Q: Will I be notified when my QBCC licence is about to expire?
A: Notifications are not currently sent from the app. You must follow the renewal process via the QBCC digital licence web page.

Q: Can I use the QBCC digital licence for job site check-ins or compliance audits?
A: Yes, where accepted. Always confirm with the relevant authority or site manager, noting some workplaces don’t allow for devices on-site.
Note: If you work in environments where mobile devices are restricted (e.g. surgical, sterile, or high-security areas), you’ll still need to carry and present your physical licence card.

Q: I have multiple QBCC licences. Why can I only see one?
A: The QBCC is releasing digital licences in staged releases, from September to November 2025. To see the list of licences released in each stage go to the QBCC digital licence web page. For all other information, refer to the ‘How-to guide’ on the QBCC digital licence web page.

Q: I’m having trouble setting up my Queensland Digital Identity. What should I do?
A: For issues with the Queensland Digital Identity, contact Smart Service Queensland (SSQ) or visit the Digital Identity Troubleshooting web page.

Q: What licence number do I input to add my QBCC licence into the Qld Digital Licence app?
A: When adding your QBCC licence to the Queensland Digital Licence app, you must enter the full licence number exactly as it appears on your physical licence card, including any prefixes such as “PD”, “A” or “PS” before the numeric characters of the QBCC licence number. Omitting the prefix (e.g. entering “123456” instead of “PD123456”) will prevent the system from recognising your QBCC licence profile and will result in an error.

Q: Who do I contact if I have issues with my QBCC digital licence?
A: For incorrect QBCC licence details, suspended or cancelled licences, or licence conditions, contact QBCC or visit the QBCC website

Q: How is my data protected?
A: All data sent to and stored in the Qld Digital Licence app is encrypted and the app includes multiple security features to protect your information. No personally identifiable information is stored or accessible outside of your device. The QBCC is committed to protecting your personal data. Visit the QBCC digital licence web page, to access the privacy statement and the Queensland Digital Licence app privacy and security page for more details.

Q: Do you share my information with third parties?
A: Information is only shared with your consent for identity verification. See the QBCC Privacy Policy – section 5.1 Use and disclosure of personal information.

Q: Why can’t someone scan the QR code on my digital licence using their phone’s camera?
A: The QR code on your digital licence must be scanned using the Queensland Digital Licence app’s built-in scanner to ensure secure verification. Both parties must have the app installed for the scan to work.

Alternatively, the QR code can be scanned using the Verifier for Digital Licence app, available for download here:

Q: Can I suggest a feature or improvement?
A: Yes. Submit feedback via the QBCC contact page: https://www.qbcc.qld.gov.au/contact-us

Q: Where can I find updates or news?
A: Visit the QBCC digital licence web page or follow QBCC on social media.

Q: Why can’t my TMR photo be used for my physical QBCC licence?
A: Due to privacy laws, TMR photos can only be used for digital licences.

Q: What if I don’t have a smartphone?
A: You can continue using your physical licence. You can also add the Queensland digital licence app to other devices e.g. an ipad.

Q: If I lose my physical licence, is my digital licence still valid?
A: Yes. Report the lost card to the QBCC, call the contact centre on phone number: 139 333

Q: Can I pay for my QBCC licence at TMR?
A: No. Payments must be made directly with the QBCC, if you are an existing QBCC licence holder, go to the MyQBCC ‘Renew Licence’ web page to renew your QBCC licence. Use your licence number to start, then follow the payment instructions on the screen.

Q: What happens if my driver’s licence is cancelled?
A: Your QBCC licence remains accessible in the app. TMR details are used only during the initial setup.

Q: Can the QBCC add a digital licence for me?
A: No. For security reasons, you must complete the setup yourself. Follow the link to the How-to Guide, on the QBCC Digital Licence web page.

Q: Where did the photo on my digital licence come from?
A: Your photo is sourced from your Transport and Main Roads (TMR) profile with your consent during setup.
Note: If you do not provide consent during the setup process, your identity cannot be verified and you will be unable to use the Queensland Digital Licence app.

Q: Will I still receive a physical card if I opt into the digital licence?
A: Yes. It does not replace the physical card which will still be distributed.

Q: Can I apply for a new QBCC licence via the app?
A: No. Applications must be submitted through the QBCC’s apply for a licence web page.

Q: Can I access or share my QBCC digital licence outside the app?
A: No. You can only access your QBCC digital licence through the Queensland Digital Licence app. To share it, use the app’s ‘Share’ feature to send a PDF copy via other apps.

Q: Does the QBCC access my TMR record?
A: No. The QBCC verifies your identity using your Queensland Digital Identity with your consent.

Q: Which photo appears on my digital licence?
A: Your TMR product e.g. Queensland drivers’ licence, marine licence or Proof of ID, photo is used.

Q: Will my QBCC digital licence be accepted outside Queensland?
A: Digital licences may not be accepted everywhere. Always carry your physical card when travelling.

Q: What safeguards protect my data against fraud or identity theft?
A: The app uses encryption and secure verification methods to protect your identity.

Q: Why is the photo on my QBCC physical card different from my QBCC digital licence?
A: The physical card uses QBCC’s photo record; the digital licence uses your TMR photo.

Q: Why is the expiry date different from my QBCC physical licence to my QBCC digital licence?
A: The physical card shows the last valid day. The digital licence shows the renewal date.
The QBCC is currently working on aligning physical licence expiry dates to the digital licence expiry dates. At present your physical licence could have an expiry date that is ONE DAY earlier than your digital licence. Your digital licence’s expiry date is accurate and is the last date you can renew your licence on before it expires. If you notice this misalignment, please be assured that we will send you a corrected physical licence upon your next renewal.

Q: Will my QBCC digital licence renew automatically?
A: No. Please log in to MyQBCC using your licence number and follow the renewal instructions. Once completed, allow up to 24 hours for the updated details to appear in the app.

Q: How do I transfer the app to a new phone?
A: Visit the QBCC Digital Licence web page for instructions.

Q: Are company licences available in the app?
A: This feature is under consideration. For updates, refer to the QBCC Digital Licence web page.

Q: How do I verify if a licence is genuine?
A:

  • You can check if they are a legitimate licence holder by checking the QBCC online register.
  • You can also check if the licence is authentic by:
    • looking for the pulsing QBCC logo in the background of the licence
    • checking the ‘refreshed’ date on the licence
    • asking the licence holder to scroll up / down on the licence, or to return to the home screen
  • You can also use the scanning feature in your own Queensland Digital Licence app, or download the Verifier App:
