Licence suspension

We can suspend your licence for various reasons, but one of the most common is for not paying your renewal fee on time.

If we intend suspending for any other reason, we'll send you a notice with the details and give you time to provide the information we need.

Once we've received the requested documents, information, or fees, we'll reactivate your licence.

Licence cancellation

If we intend to cancel your licence, we'll let you know in writing. If you can't or won't comply with a request for information, we'll then cancel your licence.

You must return your licence card(s) and certificate(s) within 14 days, or you may be fined.

To reapply, you must meet all the current licensing requirements, complete the application form, and include the application fee.

Interstate or New Zealand licences

If we cancel or suspend your licence and we are aware you hold an interstate or New Zealand licence, we may notify the interstate or New Zealand licensing authority. If this occurs, we will provide you with a copy of the notice.

The notification may result in further action by the interstate or New Zealand authority, which is at the discretion of that authority.

Getting licensed again

If your licence has been cancelled because we didn't receive your fee in the specified time, you can become licensed again without reapplying. This can only happen within the first 3 months after cancellation.

Fill in the Restoration of licence form (PDF, 64KB) and include the required fee.

If it has been more than 3 months since cancellation of your licence for non-payment, you will need to reapply and complete an application form. You must meet all the requirements and include the appropriate fee.

Certifiers

If your licence has been cancelled because you didn't renew on time, you must reapply and pay the full application fee.

Not a suitable person

We may refuse to issue or renew a licence if you are not a suitable person to hold a licence.

When deciding suitability, we consider whether you:

  • have been convicted of a relevant offence
  • have previously been refused a licence, or had a licence suspended or cancelled under a relevant Act
  • have been disqualified from holding a licence under a relevant act
  • have had any dealings where your honesty and integrity have been compromised
  • have failed to carry out statutory obligations relating to building or private certifying functions, and the reasons for the failure
  • hold current accreditation issued by an accreditation standards body.

This list is not exhaustive and we may consider other circumstances.

Appeals

If you don't agree with our decision, you can lodge an appeal with the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
