The building regulator has tracked down a notorious Victorian builder allegedly operating illegally in North Queensland.
As a result of a thorough investigation the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) has suspended the licence of Building Projects Aust Pty Ltd.
QBCC Commissioner Brett Bassett said investigators were made aware of alleged illegal activity occurring at the Port Douglas building site.
“Alleged unlicensed contracting was being carried out by The Construction Studio Pty Ltd, Building Projects Aust Pty Ltd and sole director Frane Nadinic,” Mr Bassett said.
“On October 11 2019, we made the decision to suspend the QBCC licence of Building Projects Aust Pty Ltd for inadequate site supervision.
As the investigation revealed further evidence against Frane Nadinic, the QBCC went further, issuing a Public Warning under section 20J(1)(i) of the QBCC Act.
Mr Bassett warned both subbies and suppliers to steer clear as claims of non-payment came forward.
“Frane Nadinic has been the subject of a previous creditor’s petition in Victoria and the QBCC is further investigating his involvement in construction in Queensland.”

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) warns subcontractors and suppliers dealing with Frank Nadinic, The Construction Studio Pty Ltd and Building Projects Aust Pty Ltd.
This is a warning issued by the Commissioner of the QBCC to the public under section 20J(1)(i) of the Queensland Building and Construction Commission Act 1991 (QBCC Act).
The QBCC is aware of alleged unlicensed contracting and other offences by The Construction Studio Pty Ltd, Building Projects Aust Pty Ltd and their director Frane Nadinic, also known as Frank Nadinic.
These entities have been involved in the building of a development at 33 Davidson Street Port Douglas.
The building licence of Building Projects Aust Pty Ltd was suspended by the QBCC on 11 October 2019 for inadequate site supervision.
The Construction Studio Pty Ltd has never held a QBCC licence.
The QBCC has also become aware of claims of non-payment to subcontractors dealing with these entities and entry into verbal contracts in alleged breach of the QBCC Act.
The QBCC is urging subcontractors and suppliers to exercise caution in any dealings with these entities or individual and to ensure contracts are in writing and comply with legislative requirements, which provide protections to subcontractors.
