A clear, compliant agreement sets out expectations, outlines the rights and obligations of all parties, and helps prevent disputes. QBCC provides a range of contracts designed specifically for residential building work, and we strongly encourage home owners to use a QBCC contract for every project.
Using the right contract is not just good practice; it is a safeguard for your investment, your rights, and peace of mind.
Why using a QBCC contract is essential
Legal protection
QBCC contracts comply with Queensland legislation and outline the rights and obligations of both parties.
Access to the Queensland Home Warranty Scheme (QHWS)
The QHWS administered by the QBCC, is Australia’s most accessible home warranty scheme. It protects owners in the event of incomplete or defective building work. Access to it requires (among other things) a contract to be in place for your project. A QBCC contract highlights the importance of the QHWS and payment of a premium for it. Your licensed contractor will collect the QHWS premium (usually as part of the deposit), and you will receive a Notice of Cover from the QBCC confirming your protection under the QHWS.
Transparency and clarity
A proper contract sets out the scope of work, materials, timelines, and payment structure. This helps prevent unexpected costs or changes.
Compliance with requirements
In Queensland, for most residential building work valued more than $3,300, a written contract is mandatory. Using a QBCC contract ensures you meet this requirement.
Confidence for home owners
These contracts are designed to be fair, balanced, and easy to understand, giving everyone confidence throughout the building process.
Why we encourage you to use QBCC contracts
Building and renovation projects are among the costliest exercises a property owner will ever undertake. Our contracts ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency from the start. Using our version helps avoid missing details, unclear inclusions, or gaps that could lead to disputes.
