In August 2017, the Queensland Government passed new laws which affect the building and construction industry.
The laws place greater responsibility on everyone in the building product supply chain, to ensure that products used on buildings are fit for their intended purpose.
For example, this means that if a supplier sells a building product that is unfit for its intended purpose, the supplier could be liable for compliance enforcement action.
The laws now ensure everyone in the building product supply chain is accountable.
The intent of the new laws is to improve the safety of Queensland buildings.

To assist industry members in meeting their obligations under the amended Queensland Building and Construction Commission Act 1991, the Department of Housing and Public Works has prepared a Code of Practice on non-conforming building products.
