Regulatory Reports now available: New compliance and enforcement insights published by the QBCC

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) has published its inaugural Regulatory Reports, a key commitment from the Compliance and Enforcement Strategy 2024–2026.

The bi-annual reports provide a high-level overview of key compliance and enforcement activities, showcasing how the QBCC is evolving its approach in response to industry challenges and shifting risk profiles.

Two reports are now available:

The reports offer valuable insights that will inform continuous improvement and promote consumer confidence across the sector.

Key highlights from FY2024–25 include:

  • a move away from broad inspection campaigns toward targeted, intelligence-led enforcement—including an increased focus on high-risk areas of fire safety and mechanical services from January to June 2025
  • strategic use of risk-based audits, uncovering an increase in unlicensed contracting stronger prosecution outcomes
  • expanded use of alternative dispute resolution to support industry resilience
  • emergence of roof cladding as the top defect from January to June 2025
  • increase in warranty claims despite a decline in approvals and payouts
  • improved licensee adherence to minimum financial requirements, but an increase in the value of monies owed complaints resolved and payments facilitated to subcontractors.

The Regulatory Reports demonstrate how the QBCC is evolving in a dynamic environment—reflecting a shift toward intelligence-led, risk-based regulation that targets non-compliance and emerging risks more effectively—and upholding its commitment to ensure high standards of work and to support a fair, safe and sustainable building industry.
