Even if you are not the review applicant, we recommend that you: 

  • engage in the review process 
  • respond to any requests for information made by the Internal Review Unit 
  • provide the case officer with all the information you wish to be considered. 

Below are some examples that demonstrate how contractors and homeowners may be affected by an internal review decision. 

Affected as a contractor

Original decision You were not given a direction to rectify
Review application The owner is seeking to have a direction issued for some or all of the complaint items
Possible review decision A direction to rectify is issued
Possible consequence
  • The direction to rectify will show on your public record.
  • You will be required to rectify works.
Original decision The rectification work you completed in compliance with a direction to rectify was of a 'satisfactory standard'
Review application The owner believes that the work is not of a satisfactory standard
Possible review decision The work is not of a satisfactory standard
Possible consequence
  • The outcome will show on your public record
  • You may be required to pay a debt to rectify the works under the Home Warranty Insurance Scheme.
Original decision You are issued with a scope of work under the Queensland Home Warranty Insurance Scheme
Review application The owner believes the scope is not sufficient and should be added to/ changed.
Possible review decision A new scope is issued which includes more items/ more costly rectification methods
Possible consequence
  • You will be required to pay a greater debt to rectify the works under the Queensland Home Warranty Insurance Scheme.
  • The debt will show on your record.

Review application The contractor is seeking a decision not to issue a direction to rectify for some or all direction items
Possible review decision A decision is made not to give a direction to rectify
Possible consequence No further action is taken by QBCC.
Original decision The rectification work undertaken in compliance with a direction to rectify is 'not of a satisfactory standard'
Review application The contractor believes the work is of a satisfactory standard
Possible review decision A decision is made that work is of a satisfactory standard
Possible consequence No further action is taken by QBCC
Original decision A scope of works is issued under the Home Warranty Insurance Scheme
Review application The contractor is seeking to reduce the scope items of the scope of works.
Possible review decision A new scope is issued which includes less items/ rectification methods
Possible consequence The scope of works will be limited to the items identified in the internal review decision
