Builder – Low Rise
Scope of work
- Building work on a class 1 or class 10 building
- Building work on classes 2 to 9 buildings with a gross floor area not more than 2000m², but not including Type A or Type B construction
- Building work that consists of non structural work on a building, regardless of—
- the class of the building; or
- the gross floor area of the building
- Prepare plans and specifications if the plans and specifications are:
- for the licensee’s personal use, or
- for use in building work to be performed by the licensee personally.
The scope does not include:
- a completed building inspection for an interested party for the building, or
- personally carrying out any building work for which:
- a fire protection licence is required, or
- an occupational licence is required unless the licensee holds the occupational licence.
- directly or indirectly causing non -structural work to be carried out on a building (regardless of the building class and gross floor area of the building), or providing non-structural building work services on a building (regardless of the building class and gross floor area of the building) if—
- a fire protection licence is required for the work; and
- the work is—
- for Type A or Type B construction on classes 2 to 9 buildings; or
- on classes 2 to 9 buildings with a gross floor area not more than 2000m2

Experience required
Qualified in bricklaying/block laying or carpentry
Two years experience in:
- the licence class scope of work, or
- other work the commission is satisfied is at least equivalent to experience in the scope of work for the class.

All other applicants
Four years experience in:
- the licence class scope of work, or
- other work the commission is satisfied is at least equivalent to experience in the scope of work for the class.

- Interstate Applicants – may be eligible to obtain a QBCC licence through Mutual Recognition
- Overseas Applicants – may have to have an overseas qualification assessed for equivalency prior to applying.
Registered Training Organisations (RTOs)
- apprenticeship papers
- documentation showing you successfully completed the appropriate course for this licence class
- documentation showing you successfully completed an equivalent course for this licence class (e.g. similar modules)
- recognition certificate
- a qualification of statement of attainment of the required competency issued by an approved authority for the licence class.
